Shankara in Portugal

The place where light and matter meet

Shankara is a vibrant place of power in the heart of Portugal. Surrounded by unspoiled nature, it offers a space where people come together to meditate, find stillness, and listen to their inner selves.

The origin of Shankara is deeply connected to an inner vision Sarla received in 2021: The Eternal revealed to her a specific place in Portugal—powerful, luminous, hidden. When she found it, something extraordinary happened: The earth opened, and the light of the Eternal streamed down—a white-gold, shimmering light that unites matter and eternity within itself. A sacred moment of connection.

From this vision a symbol was born: the Murti. This sculpture depicts the events of this sacred encounter on several levels.

The Murti

From this vision a symbol was born: the Murti.

Then, in the autumn of 2023, a gift arrived: a donor and the name of a young English sculptor living in Portugal appeared.

Through conversations with him, this sculpture took shape.

Its lowest form symbolizes the opening up of the earth, the readiness to receive the divine light.

From it rises a lotus blossom where purity and beauty awaken and ascend from the darkness.

Above it hovers a glass sphere symbolizing the light of eternity itself.

On April 13, 2024, this marble figure with the glass sphere was installed in Shankara. Since then, it has invited people to approach it in silence, to meditate, to receive, and to recognize the light within themselves.

For now, Shankara will open its doors for a visit to the Murti once a month.
